HERRING LEADS HOME C&AC ON THE FOSSE
Several Leamington C&AC riders competed in the recent veterans' ten-mile event on the Fosse Way at Offchurch, where John Herring led them home in a personal course best of 22.30 for sixth place overall. Tony Smith clocked 24.14, Bob Lane 33.44.
Determined to produce a good performance in the Ogmore Valley Wheelers 25-mile TT in South Wales, Nadine Garioud knocked more than 3min off her week-old C&AC women's 25-mile record to take the third lady prize in a time of 1.01.58. Seth Mayhew competed in the same event and also managed to set a pb of 1.04.19.
Arthur Beeton is also in good form and finished third in the Shirley Road Club 25-mile time trial in 1.05.14.
Making full use of the light evenings, the recent Wednesday club time trial was a 22-mile hilly event over two laps of a Harbury circuit, taking in two climbs of Windmill Hill at Chesterton. Richard Gostick interrupted Arthur Beeton's run of wins with an impressive 57.02, followed by Beeton 58.06, first veteran Tony Smith 58.46 and Phil Burridge 59.27.
Adrie Breugelmanns was fifth in 1.02.46, ahead of Phil Galpin 1.02.49, Pete Taylor 1.02.58, Tim Cadd 1.03.00, Steve Walker 1.04.26, Cavin Woodward 1.08.14, Roger Gardner 1.10.22, Geoff Munford 1.10.28, Pam Styles 1.11.03, Steve Castle 1.11.04 and Chris Walker 1.12.54.
Kenilworth Wheelers' annual races at Victoria Park in Leamington came to a recent conculsion and again proved a big success. Once again the races drewriders from all over the country, including members of the British national squad.
The Wheelers' riders were particularly successful in their category with wins from Lance Ravenhill and top five places from several other team members. The series overall was won by Lance with his team mate James Webster in second place making it the best year ever for the Wheelers.
Seth Mayhew and Nadine Garioud entered the Harlech Triathlon for fun and ended up taking second prize in the mixed team category.
The race comprised a 400m swim followed by a 23 mile bike ride along the coast road from Harlech to Barmouth and back, then a four-mile run along Harlech beach.
Starting withMayhew on the swim, followed by Garioud on the bike then Mayhew for the run, the Leamington C&AC pair managed to finish in a time of 1hr 43min for second place in the mixed section in a field of more than 400. The overall event winner was Spanish triathlete Juan Cuervo (1.30).
