Old Leamingtonians’ newcomer wins players’ player award

OLD Leamingtonians Ladies dressed up and enjoyed a celebratory evening to mark the end of the 25th season of women’s rugby at The Crofts.

The squad finished second in the RFUW National Challenge - Midlands 1 league with some superb results throughout the season against succesful teams including Loughborough and Chesterfield.

Several squad members also represented Warwickshire and The Midlands.

An End of Season Awards Dinner recognised several players for their talent and contributions throughout the campaign.

Presented by coach Gemma Lewis and outgoing captain Hannah Leyland, the awards went to Caroline Spence for Coach’s Player of the Season, Sarah Munday for Back of the Year, Kat Senior for Most Improved Player and the ‘You Didn’t Want To Do It Like That’ Award went to May Sly.

Coach Gemma Lewis was awarded the Jane Daniel Club Woman Award for her dedication and commitment to the team.

The big winner on the night was Irish newcomer Allison Condell who was named Forward of the Year for her exceptional ability and attitude and the coveted Players’ Player award, which was voted for by squad members.

A record number of players for at least the last eight years played for the team this season.

Leyland will step down after three seasons at the helm to make way for new captain Caroline Spence, who will be looking after the team with fly-half Sarah Munday continuing as vice captain.
