Village news for Kilsby (November 27)
WI
Mr F Millington, the speaker at Kilsby WI's November meeting, enchanted members with fabulous pictures he'd taken to illustrate his talk about photographic hot spots.
Some members arranged to join the county trip to Winchester'
s Christmas market, while others planned to take part in the Drive for Life campaign to improve their motoring skills.
LOCAL HISTORY
SOCIETY
The bar of The George was packed for the last meeting of the Local History Society when a slander case from the 19th century was re-enacted.
This case, which was reported in the local newspaper, centered on the allegation made in The George by George Cowley.
He was said to have stated that Elizabeth Postle, wife of the village schoolmaster, had committed adultery with the vicar of Kilsby. All of the witnesses had been in The George for most of the day, starting with Mr Cowley who'd been there at 8am for "a breakfast of three brandys and soda", prompting solicitor Mr Walker to ask, "Does all of Kilsby spend the time at this hotel?".
COFFEE MORNING
