TALK ON CIVIL WAR AT THE LIBRARYAn illustrated talk on the English Civil War will be given by Julie Ball, re-enactor from the Sealed Knot society, with plenty of props and costumes.
This will be at Long Buckby library today (Thur

LONG BUCKBY LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETYThe meeting on Wednesday at 7.45pm in the community centre will be a talk by Ron Greenall on Oddfellows and Others - the World of Victorian Friendly Societies.
Ron was a university lecturer who was instrumental in founding the LB History Society back in 1971.
GRAND COFFEE MORNING IN AID OF CHURCH FUNDSAt the United Reformed Church, Brington Road, on Saturday, May 23, from 10.30am-12.30pm. Stalls will include homemade cakes, bric a brac, plants, haberdashery, books and jigsaws. There will also be a raffle. All welcome.
LONG BUCKBY AND DISTRICT ECOLOGICAL SOCIETY REPORT FOR MARCH AND APRILMarch started very quietly but a chiffchaff was heard in Brington Road on the 11th. Red kites circled Grange and Oak Tree Farms in the early part of the month. Brimstone butterfly came towards the end of the month, several sightings. April of course heralds spring, and the first swallow came on the 6th.
On the 12th, swallows and marsh harriers were also seen at Grange Farm, where an interesting incident occurred when a sparrow hawk attacked a squirrel's tail when he was on the bird table. On the 11th a wheatear was seen at Oak Tree Farm, and again red kite were seen by several people around this date.
A green sandpiper was observed at a local pond. Butterflies seen included green veined white, orange tip and the more common ones. A bat was seen towards the end of the month in Watts Way.
A cuckoo was heard at the bottom of Hanner Hill (Brington Road) at the end of the month. All sightings to Peter Spokes, on 01327 842327.
