BOB'S NATURE NOTES FOR FEBRUARY
A very pretty month with the snow and frost, but not very good for walks around my patch so I have had to do much of my birdwatching sitting in my lounge, viewing the back and front gardens.
Best sightings have been five siskins on the front feeder, plus two bramblings and a very good flock of long-tailed tits (plus others of the tit family).
The local roe deer have been staying in the shelter of the woods.
Towards the end of month, we are getting up to a lovely dawn chorus, and it is also nice to see the spring flowers now the snow has gone.
Two ravens seen on Wednesday, February 25, plus skylarks now with us in good numbers. A rough-legged buzzard has been seen north of the village and one red kite has also been reported. Two bramblings were on our feeder on Friday , February 27 – the first I
have seen this winter. Our tawny owls are also with us again.
The last few days of the month have been very nice – on Saturday I heard my first chiff-chaff singing and my first wheatear among the stubble south of the village
