BOB'S NATURE NOTES FOR MAY
A good start a
nd finish to the month with cuckoos singing from the first of the month to the last day. Buzzards in abundance from the middle to the end of the month.
We have five nesting lapwing sites on local fields and they are keeping fit protecting their nests from the local buzzards. A hobby has been reported this month upsetting the herons.
Reed bunting showing on one of our lakes, but no sign of feeding young as yet.
The first spotted flycatcher seen on the evening of May 26. Adult red kites have been reported on three occasions this month. There was a sighting of two kites together being kept company by some crows.
For the last two weeks we have been visited by a fox which comes over the front gate and clears the scraps of food that the birds haven't eaten.
The same fox also goes into at least one other garden about 50 metres west of us. Muntjac deer are also around.
It was a very nice end to the month – warm sunshine and early walks in the morning to catch the dawn chorus
