Wellesbourne residents were celebrating a silver gilt award in the Heart of England in Bloom competition this week.
The success came after a flurry of activity which saw 17,000 bulbs planted, an area of waste ground transformed and impressive displays installed at the village hall and library. It was only the village's second appearance in the competition.

Chairwoman of Wellesbourne in Bloom, Heather Sims, made it a double with a discretionary award of merit for her own efforts.

She said: "Everyone got involved - residents of all ages, the students from Moreton Morrell College and even the youngsters from the probation service - and the judges were particularly impressed with how the whole community has taken Wellesbourne forward in such a positive way.

"We would like to thank everybody who helped in projects, and especially the younger members of the village."
