Recreating the "originality and passion" of British electronica group The Prodigy is the main aim of Southam tribute band Jilted Generation.
Since 2005, Jason, Sparky, Eddie, Sean and Robin have been performing in honour of the group responsible for tracks including Firestarter and Voodoo People.
By the sounds of things, they capture not just The Prodigy’s music but the band’s anarchic
, on-stage presence too. Jilted Generation founder, MC and Prodigy ‘superfan’ Jason Shorthouse explained more.
He said: “I’ve been a fan of The Prodigy for years and just love their passion - their live shows are utter chaos. Some hardcore Prodigy fans have said our gigs are like seeing the real band. Their ex-guitarist Gizz Butt played with us and said it was like a flashback to the old days.
“We just want to give those who come to see us a really good time. We finish performances covered in sweat and bruises and find we do on stage things we’d never normally do. The music just brings it out.”
The group has performed at London superclub Ministry of Sound, Glastonbudget Festival and Liverpool Carling Academy and is currently in the middle of a UK tour.
As well as playing hits by Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and co, Jilted Generation also write their own music which they test live, sandwiched between Prodigy classics.
The five members bring a variety of musical influences to the group including drum and bass, old-school hardcore, jungle, breakbeat and punk.
Forthcoming gigs include a performance alongside DJ Pilgrim at Stoneythorpe Hotel in Southam on June 28 and also at Napton Festival on September 13.
