Tina Magumdar began making clothes while taking GCSE textiles at Trinity School three years ago. After getting her results, the 19-year-old took part in a two-year BTEC course at Kensington and Chelsea College where she studied computer aided design and learned about creating garments from scratch.

Describing her work, she said: "I love the 1950s so a lot of my designs are inspired by that era. I like to sit down and look at pictures that inspire me and think about things that would work well in the retail market."

"Alexander McQueen is my favourite designer because everything he makes is different to everything else out there. He trained as a tailor which is carried through in his designs."

During the course, Tina made a number of outfits for events, including Alternative Fashion Week, which she entered two years running.

She added: "The piece I am most proud is a black dress I made for a show where the theme was the film Sixth Sense.I stayed up until 1.30am sewing roses on to it. I decided to use red as I think the film used a lot of red in the main scenes and I wanted to pull that out."

Tina, who lives with her parents in Warneford Mews, will be continuing her education at Epsom University, Surrey, this September to study fashion design.

She still has all her creations but is hoping to find a buyer. She said: "I would like to sell one or two of my pieces but I think it can be difficult to find a customer as most of the clothes I make are size six to eight."
