This is the second year that Deliveroo has organised their own restaurant awards and they take on a special significance this year, as the awards will focus on the hard work and talent of their restaurant partners who have endured an extremely tough time due to the pandemic.

Due to Covid-19, the awards will be held virtually but the winners will have the chance to star in one of Deliveroo’s major digital campaigns.

Last year, Bristol-based Oowee Vegan bagged the prestigious title of ‘Restaurant of the Year’ beating out tens of thousands of restaurants and takeaways across the UK. The vegan diner has since expanded into two sites in London (Dalston and Brixton) along with launching its first site in Brighton through Deliveroo’s delivery-only Editions kitchens.

The company has today revealed the twenty restaurants longlisted for each award category - the British public have until Friday 16 October to vote for their favourites via the Deliveroo Restaurant Award website.

The six restaurants shortlisted for each category, as voted for by customers, will be announced the following Wednesday (October 21). Voting will re-open again for one final chance to vote to decide who deserves each title; the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards 2020 winners will be announced online on Monday 7 December on Deliveroo’s Twitter channel.

This year there are 18 categories in full including new categories such as Best Newcomer and Best Essentials (grocery partner). Other categories include Best Eco-friendly, Best Vegan, Best Halal and an award decided by Deliveroo’s 35,000 riders in the UK.

The coveted Restaurant of the Year award will focus on restaurants who have been going above and beyond in the crisis and supporting their local community, while running a much-loved business. The top award will be judged by an all star celebrity line-up judging panel who will be revealed on 21st October.

Will Shu, CEO, said: “This year has undoubtedly been one of the most challenging years the restaurant sector has ever faced. Yet in the face of huge uncertainty, we have been inspired by the way restaurants across the UK and Ireland have stepped up and gone the extra mile to support their local communities, while working tirelessly to keep their own businesses going.
