Ratchet-ing up the platformer.
Sony has reminded the world that video gaming can be fun with its latest exclusive.
Ratchet & Clank have been entertaining gamers with their great humour, imaginative levels, exotic locations and over the top weapons for nearly 15 years.
And now they have landed on next gen topping the UK charts after releasing on the PlayStation 4 last week.
This really does ratchet up the platformer to a whole new level.
Think Crash Bandicoot meets Knack and then some, Ratchet and Clank will appeal to an entire spectrum of gamers from the very youngest to those who grew up with platform games as a staple of their gaming diet in the 80s and 90s.
The stunning game follows Ratchet - a feline-like character known as a Lombax, who is a mechanic - and Clank, his diminutive, sentient Zoni robot sidekick, as they travel through the universe, saving it from evil forces that consistently threaten it. The series has been noted for its inclusion of many unique and crazy weapons and gadgets, a concept that Insomniac Games has also expanded into their other titles.
And the latest iteration stays true to those concepts.
From the outset the first thing that hits you about this colourful platformer is that it really is absolutely gorgeous.
You can get ultra creative with the weaponry and levelling up your armoury, guns and abilities adds a huge amount to the overall gaming experience.
These upgrades feel truly rewarding and genuinely add to adventures.
What sets Ratchet and Clank apart from the crowd, though, is the charming storyline.
Engrossing, fun and at times pretty hilarious it really is no surprise Sony are set to release a film about everyone’s favourite Lombax this month.
If the film is half as good as the game then it will be doing very well indeed.
Ratchet & Clank reminds us video gaming is meant to be fun.
