Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum: Exhibition Through the Shop Window provides a glimpse at shopping in Royal Leamington Spa from the 1880s to the 1980s, including personal stories, photographs and objects from the collection. The exhibition runs until Sunday, April 17.

Until June 19, Compton Verney Art Gallery: Commemorating the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, Shakespeare in Art offers a chance for art and theatre lovers to discover Shakespeare’s works through a unique series of theatrical encounters including painting, photography, projection, sound and light. The exhibition has been designed by the Royal Shakespeare Company’s director of design, Stephen Brimson Lewis. The exhibition focuses on pivotal Shakespeare plays, including The Tempest, Hamlet, Macbeth and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, all of which have motivated artists across the ages from George Romney, Henry Fuseli, John Singer Sargent and GF Watts to Karl Weschke, Kristin & Davy McGuire and Tom Hunter. The Assembly, Leamington, doors open 7pm: Laurence Jones will be playing with his band in his home town. The young British blues artist has won several major awards, while battling with Crohn’s Disease, a serious inflammatory bowel disease, which means he has to spend a whole day in hospital every eight weeks. Kenilworth Tennis, Squash and Croquet Club, Crackley Lane, 7pm: Lucy Anne Sale, Phil Burnham and Chris Tye, who are all well known on the local pub and club circuit in Coventry and Warwickshire, will perform a variety of music over three sets during the evening. Leamington Art Gallery & Museum, 11am to 4pm: Join freelance artist Lisa Broughton for a colourful textile applique canvas workshop. Participants will be using an owl template as inspiration for their textile design, and will get to choose from a selection of fabrics to construct and fuse their artwork. Leamington Tennis and Squash Club, Guys Cliffe Avenue, Leamington: Spicy Jazz perform. Bob Jackson and Zoltan Sagi formed Spicy Jazz in Leamington in the early 1980s, and went on to have a residency for many years at the ‘Cork and Fork’ at the Regent Hotel in Leamington. Spicy Jazz disbanded in 2008 when reed player Zoltan Sagi was invited to join the Big Chris Barber Band, and Bob Jackson was working for part of the time in Scandinavia. The band re-formed in 2010 after Zoltan left Chris Barber as a full-time musician. Zoltan now plays with the Stars of British Jazz but still plays with Spicy Jazz when not touring. All Saints’ church, Leamington, 7pm: Leamington Underground Cinema is teaming up with the friends of All Saints Parish Church to screen The musical comedy The Blues Brothers. Starring Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as the eponymous musicians, The Blues Brothers is a mix of outrageous car chases, classic comedy and musical cameos from the likes of James Brown, Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles. The screening will be preceded by a short blues set from ‘Kentucky’ James Knight. Tickets cisr £10 in advance or on the door.
