Londoners given a taste of Scandinavia after an artist recreated the NORTHERN LIGHTS

Londoners were given a taste of Scandinavia yesterday after an artist recreated the NORTHERN LIGHTS above the city’s skyline.

The Aurora Borealis is one of the world’s most exhilarating natural phenomena - but Brits normally have to board a flight for Iceland or Norway to get a glimpse.

However, Dan Archer, an artist from Switzerland, brought it to the capital by creating a stunning light show using high-powered lasers and clouds.

The spectacle, which will also take place on Friday night, follows research by Huawei which found 34 per cent of millennials put the Northern Lights among their dream travel destinations.

This was followed by Niagara Falls (24 per cent), going on safari (23 per cent) and walking along the Great Wall of China (20 per cent).

The natural light show is generated by the collision of electrically charged particles released from the sun that enter the earth's atmosphere and collide with gases such as oxygen and nitrogen.

Anson Zhang, from Huawei UK, said "What better way to showcase the unparalleled photography capabilities of our flagship smartphone than to recreate the breath-taking natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights in London."

This week's display was arranged by Huawei to highlight the high-tech camera on its new P30 Pro smartphone.
