£50m plan for 280 new homes near Leamington and Warwick

Plans are now underway for a new housing estate of 280 homes in Bishops Tachbrook.

Last autumn, Warwick District Council’s planning committee granted outline permission to Thomas Bates and Sons Ltd to build the homes on 27 acres of land on the corner of Harbury Lane and Tachbrook Road - and now Persimmon Homes South Midlands has purchased the site and devised a £50 million plan.

As well as the housing, the estate will include a new road off Tachbrook Road and an emergency access off Harbury Lane.

The company’s managing director Andy Peters said: “This is an exciting development for Bishops Tachbrook that will not only provide much needed new homes, but will also breathe economic life into the village and lay the foundations for a thriving new community.”

But Bishops Tachbrook parish council chairman Sean Deely approached the news with caution. He said: “The parish council will be taking a very close interest in the detailed planning application.

“We have significant concerns: further information from the Office of National Statistics to be published on May 29 is likely to show a much lower demand for housing and therefore these sites around the periphery of Leamington and Warwick may not be needed.”

Persimmon Homes is aiming to submit a final planning document to the district council this summer.
