A popular Leamington shopping centre is in the running for two prestigious UK awards.

The Royal Priors shopping centre has been shortlisted as a finalist in two categories at the shopping centre “Oscars”, the Purple Apple Awards.

The centre was nominated in the Public Relations category and in the Community Initiatives category for its “Window of Fame” campaign to celebrate the centre’s 25th birthday last summer. The awards were devised by the British Council of Shopping Centres to recognise innovation in marketing a shopping centre and the glittering ceremony will be held at The Brewery in London on May 8.

The Window of Fame was a massive hit with families who came to see their artwork brought to life in their local shopping centre.

The iconic arched window of Royal Priors was transformed into a stunning stained glass window featuring self-portraits made by hundreds of local school children and a striking sun design made by even more children during drop in workshops held at the centre.

The Window of Fame is made of coloured vinyls to create the effect of a stained glass window, is 10 metres high, four metres wide and took over four hours to install.

The stunning artwork was officially unveiled by Leamington Mayor Cllr Judith Clarke and centre manager Gerry McManus, whilst a group of professional actors played eccentric characters “Wendy Windows” and “Archibald Artist” to provide free entertainment for families on the day, including treasure hunts through the centre .
