Police are warning residents to be vigilant after an increase in scam callers in Leamington.

Warwickshire Police said they have received more reports from residents in the town of people pretending to be from the bank, police or HMRC, trying to con them out of money.

Officers are keen to make sure everyone is alert to these calls.

"Please be aware that HMRC, the police, your bank or other official organisations will never call you out of the blue and ask you to withdraw/transfer money, set up a new account or purchase gift cards," said Warwickshire Police.

"Please share this information with your friends, relatives and neighbours to help protect them from being a victim of scam.

"If you or someone you know has been a victim of a scam, report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or via their website: www.actionfraud.police.uk"
