HS2 workers are getting close to a much-loved ancient pear tree at Cubbington, which is set to be knocked down to make way for the HS2 line.

The workers are currently at the site today (Friday September 18) removing trees and branches right next to the 250-year-old pear tree, a local landmark that was voted England’s tree of the year in 2015.

Update: Workers have now said the tree will not be felled today (Friday) but work is still being carried out in the nearby woodland. The pear tree is expected to be felled when the actual construction begins.

These photos were taken by people on the footpaths and is the closest people can get to the site.

Protests against HS2 have ramped up in the last few weeks as trees and hedgerows have been removed in and around the Kenilworth and Leamington area.
