The striking sight of the Red Rebels performing a funeral march near Leamington greeted drivers on the Fosse Way yesterday (Wednesday).

They are part of Extinction Rebellion who joined protesters campaigning against the felling of trees, shrubs and woodlands to make way for the new high speed rail line (HS2).

The Red Rebels were paying their respects to the ancient oak trees that were knocked down last week.

Campaigners say the work in completely unnecessary and a detruction of our countryside and heritage.

This week, HS2 staff started work on clearing a part of South Cubbington Wood.

And police were called today (Thursday) after incidents between protesters and security staff.
