Get into '˜siege mentality' for Kenilworth Carnival

Organisers of this year's Kenilworth Carnival would like participants to embrace the spirit of the Siege of Kenilworth by designing their floats with a siege theme.

This year marks the 750th anniversary of the historic siege, which saw King Henry III’s forces try to oust the rebels led by Simon de Montfort from June to December in 1266. It is also 90 years since the first Kenilworth Carnival.

The float which best exemplifies the siege theme will receive a cup from the town mayor-elect Cllr Richard Davies.

He said: “The Carnival doesn’t usually have a theme, but we would like to encourage people to adopt a ‘siege mentality’ when designing their floats if they feel inspired to do so.

“I will give a cup to the float that I think best captures the spirit of the siege.”

The Carnival Queen’s float will be decorated with shields bearing the coat of arms of Henry III and Simon de Montfort.

The Carnival will take place on Saturday July 2, and the procession will leave Kenilworth Castle at 1pm, led by the Carnival Queen Laura Crawley and her attendants.
