Footballers will play in a fundraising match with the aim of helping a young Warwick mum to walk again after she was struck down by a mystery illness.
Estelle Mancini had a niggling cough for a few weeks before her condition deteriorated and she was diagnosed with viral pneumonia, which turned into septicaemia.
She spent weeks in intensive care at Warwick Hospital and was unable to breathe by herself.
When she came to, her hands and feet had turned black and despite the best efforts of doctors they could not save her toes and the tips of three of her fingers.
Her cousin Jack Mancini said: “Estelle is now in a wheelchair and can only get up and down the stairs by bum-shuffling at the moment.
“She has an infection in both her heels so she can’t start physiotherapy until they get better.
“Estelle is the most kind hearted hardworking single mum I know.
“I’m not just saying that because she is my cousin, but she is also the godmother to my 22-month-old daughter and was my first visitor when she was born and would be at my house everyday.
“Estelle was in a coma on Amelia’s first birthday and I know it broke her heart.
“We are trying to raise £15,000 to enable Estelle to have prosthetic toes to enable her to walk again.”
Currently the amount the campaign has raised just over £9,000.
And to boost the effort Jack has organised for his Sunday league team Warwick Wanderers to play against a ‘Steve Mancini XI’ led by Jack’s dad and including veterans of Sunday and Saturday football and former Leamington FC players.
The event will take place at Racing Club Warwick FC in Hampton Road on Sunday from 1pm until late.
There will be an all-day barbecue, a bouncy castle, raffles, a magician and a disco.
Entry is £3 on the gate.
There will also be a Back 2 Skool Party at the Wild Boar in Lakin Road, Warwick, on Saturday June 25 from 8pm.
Tickets will cost £5.
