It’s not every day you answer to the door to someone who hands you a cheque for £25,000.
But that’s exactly what happened to Derrick Ward when the People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador, Judie McCourt, made a surprise visit to his home in Kenilworth.
The 72-year-old’s postcode was drawn as the winner - and now he has the pleasant decision of what to spent it on.
He said: “It was such a big surprise. I think I’m still in shock.
“We have one or two things in the pipeline. We went to Las Vegas a couple of years ago but only for three days. I would really like to go back and spend a lot longer there.”
Retired engineer Derrick is also looking forward to celebrating his win with family, adding: “I have three children and three grandchildren so there are plenty of people to spoil.
“I’ll have a proper think about what I want to spend the rest on.”
People’s Postcode Lottery Street prize presenter Judie McCourt said: “I enjoyed meeting Derrick and his lovely wife, Pauline.
“I hope they get to Las Vegas soon with their winnings.”
