Kenilworth Wardens Community Sports Club will move from its current site near Thickthorn to Castle Farm as part of the Local Plan after Warwick District Council’s executive approved the move at a meeting on Thursday June 2.

Before the meeting, leader of the executive Cllr Andrew Mobbs (Con, Park Hill) said: “It’s a thriving club already but this will strengthen it even further.

“The move will increase the number of pitches available and improve the facilities already built.”

The club will now acquire an extra 17.7 acres of land from the adjoining farm, adding to the two fields already part of Castle Farm’s facilities.

The site will take up just over 32 acres of space across the three fields.

The club will also be granted exclusive use of the Castle Farm recreation centre for an unspecified number of hours a week.

A one-off payment will be made to the council by the club, which will go towards improving the sports facilities at the recreation centre.

Kenilworth Wardens, which has existed for more than 50 years, has wanted to expand for some time due to its high number of junior members.

Its present site at Thickthorn has been earmarked for housing in the Local Plan after the land was released from the green belt.
