“It was ironic I picked the coldest day this end of the year to shave my head but it was all in a good cause.

“My wife had bought a hat especially for the day and our two young daughters got a shock when they saw my new short hair.”

Mr Ward will be running the London Marathon to raise more funds for the charity in April next year.

He has been running for years but only distances of 10km, such as the Two Castles Run and The Regency Run so the marathon will present a tougher challenge.

The head shave raised £170 towards Mr Ward’s overall fundraising goal of £1,500.
