One of the group tried to hit and kick out at the dog, causing the animal to stop. All of the children present were said to be very upset by the incident.

The dog was off its lead during the incident and its walker, a woman, was on the far side of the field.

PC Deborah Young from Warwickshire Police said: “I would like to take this opportunity to remind all dog owners of their responsibilities in ensuring the control of all dogs, whether in public or private places.

“We are appealing to people in the area to come forward if they believe they know this dog and its owner. We would like to ensure the safety of all of the local residents, especially the children in the area and in order to do this we will need to identify the dog and to speak with its owner”.
