Barford residents invited to see update on new community centre proposals

There will be a public consultation this weekend

Residents in Barford are being invited to go along and see an update on the proposals for a new youth and community centre.

The update is being unveiled at a public exhibition on Saturday (Aug 15).

The socially distanced consultation event on the Village Green between 10am and 3pm and will showcase a model, plans and visualisations for the new building, which will replace the dilapidated scout and guide hut at its existing site on Wasperton Lane.

Ian Paterson, chair of the project committee and trustee of the Barford youth and community centre charity, said: "Despite the constraints of lockdown, the delivery team has managed to continue the design work on this project, after a thorough review of the brief at Christmas.

"We consulted with representatives from the many users groups of the existing scout and guide hut to help us define the village's requirements.

"Our architect has taken that brief and developed a design that is in-keeping with the village and meets the needs of our growing community.

"It's not a small endeavour, and we will need to raise £600k to deliver what we know to be the impost important capital build community project in the village for decades to come, but we are confident with the village working together, we can do that."
