Budbrooke Primary School grateful for laptop donation to help pupils home learning

Staff at a primary school near Warwick have said they are grateful for a donation of laptops, which will be used to help pupils with home learning.

Bellway South Midlands, which is building new homes at Hampton Trove, off Daly Avenue in Hampton Magna donated two Chromebooks the equipment to Budbrooke Primary School to assist the school with any pupils still needing to learn from home.

The school is currently teaching 110 to 130 children remotely each day, while 80 to 100 pupils who are either vulnerable or children of key workers are attending on site.

Headteacher of Budbrooke Primary School, Craig McKee, said: “The last year has been difficult for children, parents and teachers.

"We have had to change our curriculum to make sure that none of the children miss out, whether they attend school or are working from home.

“A lot of our teaching recently has been done through online quizzes.

"This is a way that the children have been able to take part in activities and for the teachers to monitor their progress – otherwise we drop off paper packs to their homes, which is difficult logistically and makes it harder for the students to submit work.

“We’ve been speaking to families at least once a week, and from these conversations we can tell which students need extra support – which is where the donation of the Chromebooks will help.

"We are finding that a lot of siblings are having to share a computer and some others have not got access to one at all.

“Having access to online work is very important for the children and anything that allows them to do that is a big benefit, especially at this time where they could potentially miss out on a large chunk of their education.”

Bellway South Midlands is currently constructing two, three and four-bedroom homes at Hampton Trove. It is set to launch in the spring.

“School staff and parents have worked hard to provide the best possible education for pupils at Budbrooke Primary School, and we hope that this donation will go a long way in helping them continue to achieve this goal.”
