Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May cause traffic chaos near Leamington Shopping Park

The Grand Tour and former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson Richard Hammond and James May were spotted causing traffic chaos near the Leamington Shopping Park at the weekend.

The iconic trio were spotting filming on Saturday (April 24) afternoon around the roundabout between the two retail parks on Tachbrook Park Drive - it is believed they were filming for the new series of the Grand Tour.

Richard Hammond was spotted driving a silver Talbot-Matra Murena and James May was spotted driving a blue Renault Avantime.

Many residents and shoppers spotted the film crews and the show hosts but their presence also caused a commotion and traffic jams.

Max Morgan was one of the many people who saw the trio.

He said: "As we were biking down Tachbrook Drive Road on our family bike ride there were a load of people hovering around the paths, approximately half with high vis vests on and camera equipment.

"Lots of public were on the paths watching to see what was happening. I’d say approximately 30 members of public and approximately 15-20 of ‘crew’.

"When we first arrived Hammond and May were driving two cars around the roundabout whilst being filmed.

"They then wanted another take so stopped in both lanes of the roundabout (blocking it) for a clear shot (which is never going to happen at that roundabout as it’s so busy) this is where the traffic really started to build up, with horns blaring, people turning around and then a bloke who got out of his car and told Hammond to get a move on.

"Once they moved due to pressure they all congregated in the old Mothercare car park where all the support vehicles were."

Paddy McCormack, who lives in Leamington, also stopped to watch the commotion.

He said: "We were walking our dog just at that roundabout and then we noticed Richard Hammond, and James May in the cars.

"It was all a bit surreal - not only seeing them but also because it seemed like the busiest Saturday since lockdown lifted. There were so many cars everywhere. It was chaos - these two were holding up traffic.

"Jeremy Clarkson was onlooking.

"They did a couple of takes going round the roundabout and there was a bit of a delay - traffic was backing up everywhere.

"One guy got out of his car and he went to Richard Hammond's car and knocked on his window. He was so angry.

"I know everyone was in a rush but when do we have the Grand Tour coming to Leamington!

"This guy was so angry and was shouting at the top of his voice.

"After that a guy on a motorcycle shook Richard Hammond's hand and then Richard drove off into the Mothercare car park.

"You could hear them saying 'wow did you see how angry that man was'.

"At first I thought the man who shouted was an actor but it was only when I overheard them talking I realised that wasn't scripted."
