The meeting was due to take place on Tuesday August 4 and was due to cover Warwick District Council's (WDC) traffic assessment for the site which is due to be expanded with an improved gym, three dance studios, six badminton courts and improved scouts and guides headquarters.

Residents are concerned about increased traffic to and from the site, which is in a residential estate with narrow roads, schools, nurseries and some "dangerous" road junctions, and a lack of parking at the site.

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said: "We had prepared for this online meeting with residents making provision with work and technology hurdles to cross and then to have the meeting cancelled with such short notice and despite our efforts to get the information we have no real explanation as to what is wrong with the traffic assessment carried out for WDC by Mace and SLR.

"Residents have been left perplexed."

The council has said: "“Warwick District Council has offered its sincere apologies for the lateness in informing residents about the postponement of last week’s meeting regarding traffic access to Castle Farm Recreation Centre.

"This was due to the discovery of a number of factual inaccuracies in the travel assessment report which was due to be discussed at the meeting, which could have undermined the case that the council is seeking to put forward in support of its leisure development proposals.

"It should be emphasised that the council does not consider that there were inaccuracies with the report’s conclusions.

"This meeting will be rearranged, once these errors have been rectified and residents who were originally invited will be notified of the new date and time. “
