Wright Hassall is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year and to mark this major milestone the firm is appealing for the public to support its aim of carrying out and recognising 175 acts of kindness in the community during 2021.

Throughout the year, members of the public are being asked to complete a form via www.wrighthassall.co.uk/175-acts-of-kindness to share the acts of kindness that they or others have recently carried out in their community, and each month one entrant will be selected to receive a £175 prize that they can donate to a charity of their choice.

The chosen act of kindness from each month will then go into an end of year vote where Wright Hassall’s staff will vote on their favourite gesture - with the winner receiving a £1,175 to donate to a charity of their choosing.

In addition, the firm will be running a number of events throughout the year. Some of these will involve fundraising for four local charities that have been chosen by Wright Hassall staff, and include Warwick District Foodbank, Tiny Tim’s Children’s Centre, Helping Hands Community Project, and Warwickshire Young Carers.

One such event will cater for photography enthusiasts and budding artists who will be given the chance for their masterpieces to be featured in a specially designed Wright Hassall calendar focusing on local landmarks - with a view to the calendar being sold in local shops in time for 2022, with the proceeds going to the charities.

The firm, which is headquartered on Olympus Avenue, will also be taking its Legal Hub out on Coventry and Warwickshire’s roads for the first time later this year, offering free legal consultations for individuals who would normally struggle to afford and access legal advice.

Wright Hassall was formed in 1846 at 6 Wellington Street - now known as Regent Street - in Leamington Spa, and since then has grown into a market-leading firm that employs over 245 staff and is ranked in 38 practice areas in key legal directories, having worked with more than 40,000 local, regional and national clients over the past 175 years.

In addition, since the creation of the firm’s Charitable Trust in 2012, Wright Hassall’s staff have also raised around £100,000 for more than 55 charities.

Sarah Perry, managing partner at Wright Hassall, said: “Our local community has been the rock bed of our success over the years, and as we celebrate this momentous occasion, we wanted to ensure that we recognised this.

“We would, of course, have liked to have been celebrating against a more positive economic and social backdrop, but there is no doubt that pandemic has brought communities closer together and brought out the best in people, and we hope that our 175 acts of kindness initiative will help to spread this strong sense of community spirit even further.

“The acts of kindness could be anything from doing the shopping for a vulnerable neighbour, volunteering for a charity, or taking on a mammoth fundraising challenge - we want as many gestures as possible to be put forward to help us turn a spotlight on some of the great work that is happening on our doorstep.

“We are looking forward to celebrating this momentous milestone throughout the year, and will be announcing further details on other activities as the weeks and months progress.”
