The aim behind the scheme is to reducing isolation and loneliness by using typical 'garden shed' activities by making them social and encouraging people to share skills and conversation

Warwick's Men's Shed officially launched last week and now the group are looking for more people to join.

Michael Spicer, founder of Warwick Men's Shed, said: "It was great to meet the Mayor of Warwick, Terry Morris last Thursday and he was hugely supportive of the men's shed idea and that it is now available to men in the Warwick area.

"A men's shed is a place for men to meet and talk about stuff from football to engines, from flower arranging to beer (whatever) and share skills.

"Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided (we ask that contentious topics be avoided at first anyway) though online events you'll have to provide your own refreshments.

"We need men to join and get involved on our Warwick Men's Shed Facebook page.

"We also need our own venue so we are presently running events from the Warwick Sports and Social Club, the Gap Community Centre and online.

"Our next event is a vinyl night on October 13 from 7.30pm on Facebook only but we are also running a socially distanced cooking event planned for December 2020 at Warwick Sports Club.

"The Shed is open to all men (and women) over the age of 30.

"We are part of UK Men's Sheds Association so there will be a small subscription for socially distanced events."

Cllr Terry Morris, Mayor of Warwick, said: "Social Isolation is a subject that is very important to me and I was delighted to be invited to the launch of Warwick's "Men's Shed" last Thursday.

"Men's Sheds originated in Australia, where they were created to help reduce loneliness and isolation and there are now a number of Sheds across the UK.
