Montpelier Estates, a specialist provider of care homes, has been given permission to create two three-storey buildings containing a 78-bed care home and 15 care apartments along with car-parking and gardens.

People with dementia and brain acquired injuries will receive 24-hour support in the care home which will consist of ensuite bedrooms, day rooms, a dining room, service support, staff support and ancillary offices.

The home will create 70 full-time jobs including a manager, state registered nurses, care assistants, administration staff, housekeepers, catering staff, maintenance and grounds staff.

Anna Ciesielska, of Montpelier Estates which was founded in 1996, said: “The Coventry and Warwickshire Joint Strategic Housing Market Assessment has identified there will be an 81.1 per cent increase between 2011 and 2031 of residents with dementia and a 66 per cent increase in residents with mobility problems.

“We are a recognised national provider of designing and delivering nursing and residential homes, health centres, surgeries, hospitals and independent hospitals to provide care to those with mental health issues, learning disabilities and brain injuries.

“Our designs for this development will create a feeling of ‘home’, not only in the internal design of bedrooms and communal areas, but also in the scale of the building and its overall

appearance.

“This site is ideal for providing round-the-clock care to people at a time when they need it the most in their lives and there are south facing gardens which we will add to with substantial planting along the garden wall.

“We will also be opening up the communal day care space to the community to local groups whether it is amateur dramatics for rehearsals or music recitals or organisers of quizzes or cookery demonstrations because we want to become part of Leamington’s community.”

Mark Edwards, managing director at AC Lloyd Commercial, said the site has been vacant for nearly 24 months.

He said: “The plans by Montpelier Estates have been extremely well thought out to put the residents’ needs first and foremost throughout the development.

“There is a growing need for high-quality care homes and apartments to provide specialist accommodation and care in Warwickshire.

“It will be great to see the site of the former Sovereign House have a new lease of life.”

Work is expected to get underway in October.
