Residents living in a Kenilworth road have voiced grave concerns about the impact a planned major housing development near their homes will have on their lives.

The Stansfield Grove Residents Group has written to Warwick District Council to express its "collective and robust objections" to the granting of planning permission for Catesby Estates' proposal to build 620 homes and a primary school on the nearby site off Glasshouse Lane and Crewe Lane to the east of the town.

The group has said: "Whilst we accept the need for new housing, our principle objections concern the current traffic and road plans around the site, specifically the main access roundabout at the junction of Stansfield Grove and Glasshouse Lane.

"This large roundabout will adversely impact our basic rights to privacy, and drastically reduce our amenity.

"In the haste to get this application passed, no consideration was given to the objections of existing residents.

The letter goes on to cite policies, which the group says the plans are in contravention of.

The group adds: "We firmly believe the decision to grant the application in its current form was made without due regard to all material considerations and, specifically, with total disregard for the adverse impacts this will have on Kenilworth and on its current and future residents.

"Any mitigation schemes must be to the satisfaction of residents, not just the Environmental Health Officer."

Outline planning permission for the proposal was granted to Catesby by Warwick District Council's planning committee in June following a recommendation for it to do so by a planning officer.

Ed Barrett, Senior Planning Manager for Catesby Estates has said: "The need for additional new homes in the area is well recognised by the local community, and with the inclusion of 40% per cent affordable housing we will be giving those looking to take their first steps on the housing ladder a welcome boost.”
