Remember loved ones at Leamington and Whitnash trees of light

NO town is complete during the festive season without its decorated Christmas tree standing proud and bright.

Leamington Spa Rotary club takes great pride in adding an extra dimension to the Christmas spirit, with its Trees of Light outside Leamington town hall and St Margaret’s church Whitnash.

These are special because through them people are able to remember a loved one and donate to a very worthwhile charity; almost everyone has a relative or friend who cannot be with them at this festive time, perhaps separated by distance, service in the Armed Forces, or bereavement.

All can be symbolically celebrated on trees of light while making a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support by completing a donation form in your Leamington Courier with the name to be remembered.

The names will be displayed at the town hall, the Royal Priors shopping centre, St Margaret’s church porch and Whitnash library.

Referring to Macmillan Cancer Support, the club’s president George Dick said: “The Rotary Club of Royal Leamington Spa is delighted to support Macmillan Cancer Support once again.

“I know very well how much this means to the patients and families helped by the invaluable work of Macmillan Cancer Support.”

Fundraising committee chairman Finbarr Looney is confident that the campaign will be another success. He added: “The trees of light have been a keystone of our charity fundraising for twelve years now, raising a total of almost £45,000. The trees enable so many people to help a worthy charity while sharing their fondness for absent loved ones at this very special time.”

The Whitnash tree will be switched on by mayor Cllr Adrian Barton on Saturday November 17, with carols around the tree at 5.15pm at St Margaret’s church.

The Leamington tree will be switched on on Sunday November 25 by Warwick District Council chairman Cllr Michael Kinson at 3.30pm at the town hall, accompanied by carols led by the Royal Spa Brass Band and the Baptist church choir.

Donations and completed forms may be handed in at the town hall, Leamington, or Whitnash Town Council Offices in Franklin Road, or posted to Macmillan Friends of Warwickshire as detailed on the coupon.
