Restoration of Kenilworth Castle's mere by blocking pipes '˜a risk to life'
Cllr Hitchins (Con, Park Hill) strongly opposed the blocking of pipes at the Tiltyard embankment dam when speaking at the last town council meeting.
He made it clear that blocking some of the dam’s pipes near Kenilworth Castle would be “a risk to life” due to the large amount of water the dam would hold back.

“If there is a blockage there engineers would take it out because it is a risk to life. If the water being held back by the blockage all came out at once it would take houses out.
“I hope everyone is now clear on that.”
The Tiltyard dam was originally built in the 12th and 13th century to hold back water from the castle’s mere.
