A large gathering of Rotarians, together with friends and supporters, has formally presented cheques to Myton Hospices and The Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

These donations were from the proceeds of a dragon boat event held by the club on the River Avon in St Nicholas Park last September.

The event raised a total of £13,000 most of which came from the 19 teams that took part. The 2015 winners were a team from Mike Vaughan Cycles in Kenilworth who will be back defending their title again later this year.

The presentations took place at the Holiday Inn in Kenilworth and the event was also used to launch the 2016 Warwick Dragon Boat Festival.

The 2016 Warwick Dragon Boat Festival will be held on Sunday, September 18, in St Nicholas Park again.

Ray Sinclair, the president of Warwick Avon Rotary Club, said: “Together with Warwick Boats we aim to put on a fantastic festival in September. We are delighted that National Grid’s legal department have agreed to become the festival’s main sponsor.

Ray added: “If any local organisations, clubs or companies would like to enter a team they had better be quick because the available places are going fast. This a great opportunity to raise money for charity.

“If anyones wishes to get involved and help us with this or any of our other activities just get in touch. Warwick Avon Rotary Club welcomes people who like to give back to their communities as well as having fun.”
