Southam College students and best mates Abigail Eggleston and Emily Aries, both aged 13, came 1st and 2nd at the Rotary District Young Chef competition held at Rugby College.

Abigail and Emily, who had also been winners of the preliminary round at Southam College in January, each prepared a three-course meal and dressed a table for two.

Judge, Roger Givens, from the college, said: “The standard attained by these young chefs just keeps increasing each year making it more difficult to pick out a winner”

Both now go forward to compete in the next round of this national competition, again at Rugby College, with competitors coming from as far away as Bristol and Wales.

Prizes were presented by President of the Rotary Club of Rugby Saturday Breakfast, Ken Ure, who added: “This competition is one of many run by Rotary to encourage young people to develop their skills and talents.
