Team Ethan give more support to Warwick baby's fight

Parents Laura and James Maclellan will complete the gruelling Wolf Run next Saturday in hope of raising funds to help the youngster through ongoing medical care.

And “amazing support” from family and friends will not leave their side as they are joined by 24 others to make up Team Ethan and complete the 10-kilometre course complete with obstacles and challenges.

The team hopes to raise around £1,500 to provide care and equipment needed by baby Ethan who is still undergoing tests to determine a mystery condition.

Mum Laura, who lives with her family in Hathaway Drive, said it was simply a case of getting together for her son.

“There are 26 of us, and all doing this for Ethan,” she said.

“He needs some expensive equipment to help, like supports for his pushchair.

“We just want to add to that and start a trust fund to pay for all the things he will need growing up as care continues.

“We have had so much support, everyone has been amazing and Team Ethan is incredible for doing this.”

The couple, who also have a five-year-old son, Tristan, said training together has been tough as they look after the two boys, but that they are both ready to take on the gruelling run on April 9.

Ethan, aged 18 months, was diagnosed with an underdeveloped brain shortly after his birth in September 2014.

The “happy little boy” has undergone a lifetime of tests and treatment for speech, strength and mobility but doctors are no closer to an answer,

The baby was last year fitted with a feeding tube straight to his stomach to help control regular violent sickness and needs help supporting his head and sitting up.

Dad James, who has lost six stone since training for runs to work up to the big race, said there may never be an answer for Ethan’s illness.

“We are waiting for the results of genetic tests, but it could be that we never have a condition confirmed for Ethan,” he said.

“What helps us through is that Ethan always has a big smile on his face, it is definitely a help in difficult times.

“We have been told he will probably always have developmental delay, but he is making progress, we can notice the small things.”
