Man seriously injured and others hurt in multi-vehicle collision on M6 near Rugby

West Midlands Ambulance Service received a 999 call reporting an RTC on the southbound carriageway of the M6 between junctions 3 and 2 just before 8.30am.

Four ambulances, a paramedic area support officer and the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance with a medic on board attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When ambulance staff arrived they found a car which had collided with the rear of a lorry.

“The driver, a man in his 50s, was trapped in the wreckage. Ambulance staff and the medic administered treatment to the man whilst the fire service worked to extricate him from the car.

“The man had suffered serious injuries and required advanced trauma care on scene before being taken by land ambulance to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire; the doctor travelled on board to continue treatment en route.

“The occupants of the two lorries and car were all out of their vehicles. One lorry driver, a man in his 40s, was discharged on scene.

“The second lorry driver, a man in his 30s, suffered leg pain and was given pain relief on scene before being taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

“The driver of the second car, a woman in her 30s, had back pain and was given analgesia by ambulance staff before she too was taken to the same hospital.

“Two young children and a man who were in the car with her were checked over by ambulance staff but were uninjured.”
