Helen Venn from Chase Meadow will spend 24 to 30 hours walking from Richmond Park in London to Brighton Racecourse with four friends from May 28 to 29.

Despite being the operations director of a company and having two school-age children, Helen, who has family members with dementia, has found time to fit in training.

She said: “I have a knee injury which I picked up during training, so I’m feeling a bit nervous about the challenge, but will certainly give it my all and try my best to finish.”

Helen’s parents Joan and Phil Barton, who live in Warwick, are so impressed by her efforts that they decided to organise a charity event to help boost her fundraising.

Joan said: “Helen is of a very giving nature. She was one of the founders of the Chase Meadow Community Centre and is now a trustee there.

“She has a very demanding job but still finds time to do things like this. What do they say if you want something done? Ask a busy person!

“Obviously we will be sponsoring her, but we felt that because her effort is so tremendous, we wanted to put in some additional effort.”

Joan and Phil are hosting Da Capo, a cappella chamber choir, to perform a concert at Hill Close Gardens in Warwick on June 25 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Joan said: “We love Hill Close Gardens - it’s one of the hidden gems of Warwick.

“It’s a wonderful thing that Helen is doing. The profile of dementia has been raised considerably recently and this will add to it.”
