Youngsters who damaged newly planted trees in Whitnash have been made to pay for their actions by litter picking in the park where the offence was caused.
The damage was carried out at Acre Close park in April and, following an investigation by Warwickshire Police’s Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) in the town which involved viewing CCTV and liaising with nearby schools, the offenders were identified.
The team then spoke to members of the Friends of Acre Close Group and Whitnash Town Council and it was agreed that those responsible should make amends.
PC Neil Ward of the Whitnash SNT said: “By giving the victims of certain offences the opportunity to suggest ways in which offenders can make amends for their actions, we hope to achieve a real sense of closure for them.
“This type of sanction also serves to show the offender the impact their actions can have, not only on the victim, but on the wider community.”
