Party champagne's on ice for lockdown birthday Brits

Expect to see a surge in big celebrations towards the end of the year as those with milestone birthdays or special wedding anniversaries during lockdown finally get to party with their family and friends.

According to a survey of 1,000 adults, nearly half (40 per cent) are planning to defer their celebrations until Covid-19 restrictions lift completely.

This will allow for a big party that is not limited  by current Government guidelines which state that Brits can only meet with one other household indoors or in groups of six outdoors and are not able to hug or stand any closer to each other than one metre.

The curb on big celebrations during lockdown hasn’t stopped an outpouring of love for those with birthdays during this testing time. Almost one in five (18 per cent) say they have made more effort to mark people’s birthdays if they have fallen while social distancing measures have been in place.

Nearly half (47 per cent) of those who have had birthdays so far this year have received phone calls from family and friends, while one in three (33 per cent) have received gifts.

But sadly more than one in ten (13 per cent) said their loved ones have not done anything to mark the occasion.
