Foster returned to the school where he was a student between 1995 and 1999 to talk to students and answer their questions as well as allowing pupils to take penalties against him.

Head of sixth form Rob Morey, who was one of Ben’s PE teachers when he was at North Leamington, said: “It was great that Ben found time between finishing off the Premier League season with West Bromwich Albion and jetting off to join up with the England World Cup squad, to come back and visit the students at North Leamington School.

“He spent two hours talking to students, posing for photographs and signing autographs, as well as answering questions from how he will find out if he is in the World Cup squad to the type of training he does and his dietary requirements.

“Ben is a real role model. Someone who although a Premiership football star, is very grounded and someone the students can easy relate and look up to.

“Talking about how he made it from playing locally for Central Ajax and Racing Club Warwick proves that with hard work and no lack of talent it is possible for local youngsters to achieve great things in football.”

Foster’s audience included members of the Year 7 and 8 football teams who both won their district leagues this year as well as members of the under-18 team which recently won the District Cup final.
