The decision was made last Sunday in line with guidance from NHS England, the FA , the Birmingham County FA and Warwick District Council and means no further games will be played from the 2019/20 campaign, including cup finals.

The statement went on to say: “Whilst Football is a vital and integral part of our life and society, we are and always will be subservient to the care and welfare of the community as a whole, and it would be irresponsible to think or do otherwise.

“We say to those teams who feel that we should continue and play out the remainder of the season, that we need to be realistic in these extreme circumstances and stand up for those members of society that need the care and support that we may be able to offer instead of contemplating our next 90 minutes on a football pitch.

“We should “Do the right thing”, and if your club is in a position to help the local community then what a tremendous community spirit that might bring.”

Clubs are being asked to notify honorary secretary Steve Falp of their intentions, with the league preparing to start the season in September as long as the Covid-19 outbreak is under control.
