Phil Gould made the most of home advantage to finish a fine second in the final Gloucester League race of the series at a muddy Warwick University on Saturday.
The race, hosted by Kenilworth Runners, was won by Alex Brampton of Cheltenham AC in 36:22, with Gould just ten seconds back.
It capped a memorable day for the Gould family, with daughter Mel a fine third in the girls’ under-13 event running for Leamington.
Paul Andrew was next home for Kenilworth in the senior men’s race, finishing 12th in 39:10.
Marc Curtis (17th in 39:40), Matt Dyer (24th in 40:42), Jim Richardson (25th in 40:49) and Pete Bryan (31st in 41:16) completed the Kenilworth counters to secure fourth team in the overall series behind Cheltenham.
Leamington C&AC picked up a number of individual awards, with John Knibb’s 15th place (39:30) helping earn him the MV50 prize for the series.
Steve Howes was the MV55 gold medal winner after finishing 47th in 43:02, with Nick Tawney (65th in 45:00) gaining bronze in the same category.
Daniel Stannard (6th V40 in 43:09), Dan Fleming (36th in 45:33) and Keith Wilson (39th in 47:36) all represented Spa Striders.
In the ladies’ race, Leamington C&AC’s Jenny Jeeves picked up both a slight calf strain and the series prize for first LV45 after finishing a fine ninth in 32:33.
Clubmate Angela Chahal was 12th in 33:06, with Carol Blower making up the sixth-placed team in 39:19 (45th).
Kenilworth Runners were eighth, with Courtney Thornberry leading them home in 35:17 for 23rd.
She was followed by debutant Esther Illman (24th in 35:19) and Sally Hicks (33rd in 37:04).
The race was won by Helen Brown of Forest of Dean AC in 30:36.
Leamington C&AC’s under-17 men claimed another team victory, with Henry Rawnsley leading them home in fourth, with Greg West and Toby Loveday close behind in fifth and eighth, respectively.
Kenilworth Runners’ youth section were well represented, with Cameron Williams-Stein’s third place in the under-13 boys’ race helping Kenilworth to team glory. The girls’ under-11 team finished sixth.
