Nine-miler not as Ard for Rose as she continues fine form with another first

Kenilworth Runners' Sarah Rose had another excellent run to finish first lady at the Arden 9 at Hampton-in-Arden on Sunday.

Rose defied the humid conditions to run 55min 48sec and lead Kenilworth ladies to the team prize alongside Louise Andrews (61:30) and Laura Pettifer (61:53), who both ran new personal bests.

For the men, Stuart Hopkins ran well to finish sixth overall and first V35 in 51:59, followed by Kev Hope (7th in 52:46).

Martin Dorrill, Marc Curtis and Anthony Morgan grouped well in 15th, 16th and 18th positions, with Kenilworth securing the second men’s team behind Coventry Godiva.

There were also new PBs on the day for Ian Baynes (63:46), Gail Audhali (70:03), Debbie Streets (70:53) and Ryan Baker (71:15).

The fifth race in the Warwickshire Road Race Leaue attracted 31 Spa Striders who were led home by Paul Edwards (54:39) in 12th position with a new five-minute PB.

Edwards was closely followed by Chris McKeown (54:46), who also clocked a PB.

Newcomers to the course Ste Taylor (55:36) and Adam Notley (56:45) both recorded excellent times, along with Pete Soley (57:02, PB) and Trevor Wilkinson (57:15) who made up the scoring men’s team.

Susie Stannard (59:45, PB) showed she has the strength to carry her speed over to longer races, finishing fourth lady overall and first V35.

Carolyn Wilkinson (60:15) placed fifth in the ladies’ race and also took the V45 age category win.

Mel Venables’ (61:02) was seventh, with Bethan Gwynn (63:49, PB) completing a strong team performance for the road race league.

First to finish for Leamington C&AC was new member Craig Biggerstaff, who was 28th in 56:57.

Good packing brought home Chris Hitchman in 47th (59:17), Paul Okey in 49th (59:24) and Paul Caruana in 54th (60:10).

Graham Garlick was almost two minutes back in 62:00 for 76th, with Andy Higgins (63:07) 91st.

Jenny Jeeves was again first lady home from the club in 66:16, just holding off a fast-finishing Courtney Thornberry, two places and 22 seconds adrift.
