Dean Sparrow was crowned club champion for the first time at Kenilworth Golf Club.

He posted rounds of 73 and 76 for a 36-hole total of 149 which earned the coveted title from Daniel Lane (76, 76) and Mick Rossborough (78, 77).

Liz Brown (90, 85) regained the ladies’ championship by two shots from Karen McKenna (94, 83).

Padraig Harrington’s elder brother, Columb, partnered fellow Buckingham GC member Kaye Mater to success in the Kenilworth Bowl at Crewe Lane with a fine round of 79, nett 64.6.

They finished well clear of Kenilworth duos Teresa and David Wright (nett 69) and Jane and Roger Adams (nett 69.6).

Gill and Roger Snelson (Wellingborough) took the best gross prize with 83, while Brian and Maureen Sullivan (Coventry) won the best front nine with Andy Thomas (Hellidon Lakes) and Karen McKenna (Kenilworth) posting the best back nine score.

There were some exceptional scores in the Philpot Salver pairs and it required countback to determine the winners.

Paul Brewster and Brendan Fenerty triumphed by virtue of a better back nine than Andy Collins and Sam O’Sullivan and Phil Pegler and Adrian Ridell after all three scored 44 points.

Richard and Daniel Lane finished fourth on 43 points, while Chris Tucker celebrated his first ever hole-in-one during the competition on the 4th.

July Medal: 1, Andrew Bryan (77, nett 67); 2, Roger Jones (79, nett 70). B Division: 1, Stuart Harrison (79, nett 67, on countback); 2, Mark Wright (82, nett 67). C Division: 1, Tim Bray (82, nett 65); 2, Alastair Worden (92, nett 69). Best gross: Ben Hammond (73).

Extra Medal: 1, Trevor Lindsay (44pts); 2, Trevor Griffiths (38pts). B Division: 1, Tom Smith (37pts, on countback); 2, Jon Higgitt (37pts).

Dave Ward teamed up with last year’s winner Tim Burden to win the Jack Burns Trophy at Warwick Golf Club.

Ward and Burden, who has moved to south Wales from Warwick, came in with a respectable score of 61.

Vice-captain David Cunningham and Alex Hood were a shot back, with Rick Hughes and Paul Stallard carding 63 for third.
