Stoneleigh Cricket Club are set to improve the facilities at their picturesque ground thanks to the generosity of Waitrose customers in Kenilworth.

Development officer Paul Smith recently received a cheque from Wendy Francis, community matters champion at the Kenilworth store as part of their Waitrose Community Green Tokens Scheme.

And he said the money would be put to good use.

“We will use the money to further expand our cricketing and training facilities at Stoneleigh Cricket Club,” said Smith.

“We will shortly be receiving new mobile cricket covers which have been supported by grants from the ECB, Waitrose and the Warwick District Council.”

Francis added: “We are proud to support local clubs and organisations through the Waitrose Community Tokens Scheme.”

Meanwhile, Stoneleigh will be hosting their own Ashes match versus Melbourne Australian Reds on Sunday, July 5.

The match is being staged to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Sir Henry Parkes who was born on the Stoneleigh Abbey Estate.

Parkes was Premier of New South Wales and is known as the father of the Australian Federation.
