John Etheridge has earned a global reputation for his playing with artists including Stephane Grappelli, Soft Machine, Nigel Kennedy and John Williams, and is at home with styles ranging from Parisian hot club Jjzz to contemporary rock.

Also on the bill is Coventry-based guitarist Si Hayden. A self-taught virtuoso in his own right, Si recently issued an audacious solo rendition of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, which he has arranged and recorded without overdubs.

Interplay’s concert starts at 8pm. A bar is provided.

And as a further attraction for International Jazz Day, Dr Nicolas Pillai of Birmingham City University will give a free illustrated talk entitled Before Whiplash: Understanding the Jazz Film. The talk takes place at 5.30pm in The Studio in Jephson Gardens. No advance booking is required, although places are limited.
