Auction aims to get lion’s share for Kenilworth Lions

A LION – admittedly a wooden one – will appropriately be auctioned to help raise funds for the Kenilworth Lions this autumn.

BRINK, a not-for-profit contemporary arts organisation based in the town, was recently presented with an oak sculpture of the beast by chainsaw artist Mark Begley.

The oak lion, which was made during BRINK’s first Art on the Edge contemporary art show at the Lions Grand Show in Kenilworth this summer, has been donated to BRINK by the Coventry-based artist to raise money for the cause.

Sarah Silver, who co-founded the arts organisation, said: “Kenilworth Lions has been supporting local charities for more than 40 years.

“Due to the current economic climate, many of them are now under threat and the Lions helps them to thrive.

“This is why we feel it is so important to support an organisation that provides such valuable services in the community, particularly to the elderly and the more vulnerable people in our society.”

She added: “As well as the Waverley Day Centre, the Stroke Club, PHAB and many others, the Lions has also supported BRINK in the past and we felt that we wanted to give something back.”

The ten-day charity auction will go live on October 1 and all proceeds will be donated to the Lions group. A link to the eBay page will be published on BRINK’s website on the launch date of the auction.

The organisation’s aim is to raise awareness of contemporary art and render it more accessible to the public, while promoting talented, emerging artists, through events and shows that occur in less traditional exhibition spaces.
