Award-winning company to visit Belgrade

THE human condition is explored through contemporary dance in two new shows being brought to the Belgrade in Coventry by an award-winning dance company.

Following on from the success of last year’s shows, Scottish Dance Theatre is returning to the city theatre to celebrate its 25th anniversary year with its new performance, Letters from America, which features two shows by American choreographers.

By native New Yorker Kate Weare, Lay Me Down Safe is a tender foray into our human inexperience at reckoning with desire and loss.

Drawing on the individuality of each dancer and offering up sensuous and arresting movement, the piece explores whether desire ultimately keeps us safe from harm, or places us right in its path.

Khaos, choreographed by Benjamin Levy, explores a search for balance between deprivation and excess, where the human experience is nourished by the elements that sustain us, and not starved of or suffocated by them.

Letters From America comes to the Belgrade on Friday May 13 and Saturday May 14 at 7.45pm, with a pre-show talk with one of the company’s directors on the Saturday at 6.45pm.

For tickets, which cost £7.50 to £15, call 024 7655 3055 or go online.
